in Energy Saving

Climate change is also changing Germanys showcase sector, machine construction. When German clients buy new machines, they are increasingly demanding energy-efficiency. After all, industry produces more than a third of Germanys greenhouse gas emissions. So researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute are looking for ways to save energy. And they found lots of potential for savings in German machine construction. With more efficient production, Germany could reduce its CO2 emissions by 43 million tons a year. For example the Oppenweiler machine construction company MBO, which produces folding machines for the printing industry, commissioned the Fraunhofer Institute to take a close look at its machinery during operation. Where is energy unnecessarily consumed? The folding machines are in operation almost around the clock at the Uhl printing company. There, researcher Wolfgang Schweizer inspected the machines and found the parts that dont function efficiently. The manufacturer welcomed his suggestions for improvement. Our reporter Marion Hütter went along.
