Dr Craig Venter Announces First Synthetic Living Cell

Scientists in the US have succeeded in developing the first synthetic living cell. The researchers constructed a bacterium’s “genetic software” and transplanted it into a host cell. Dr Craig Venter, of the J Craig Venter Institute, explained how they created what he described as “the first species…. to have its parents be a computer”. news.bbc.co.uk
