Frontway Backside”. “No thankyou. “Frontway Backside, madam”, said the gentleman again, pointing in the opposite direction to that I was walking in. “Oh! OK! Thankyou” I said, turning around. Arriving at CST (VT) Station in Mumbai at 7am (an hour later than scheduled, and after 13 hours on the train from Goa), it took me a few moments to realise that the man on the platform was telling me that I was going the wrong way, and that the main exit (Frontway) was behind me, at the other end of the platform (Backside). Obvious, really. This encounter marked my return to Mumbai at the weekend to meet my parents, who flew in from Aberdeen late on Sunday night. My Dad has not only recently celebrated his 75th birthday, but less than two weeks ago had a pacemaker fitted, so it is amazing that he has been declared fit to travel, and in fact almost came bounding off the plane! He has come back to India for only the second time since he and his parents, Annie and Rögnvald, returned permanently to Scotland when he was just a chota-sahib, aged four, in 1939.
