My public service announcement. Happy holidays from my family to yours. Food for thought: When you guys are out shopping this holiday, consider getting re-chargeable batteries rather than the disposable ones. And please use more gift bags rather than wrapping paper. If you do use wrapping paper, please recycle instead of throwing it away into the trash. Every year in the US, we throw away between 2-3 billion disposable batteries! (That equates to around 100000 tons). And worldwide, it is estimated to be around 1000000 tons of disposable batteries. Reduce! Reuse! Recycle! Fact: During the holidays, we generate about an extra 5 million tons of waste… Four million tons of that is from wrapping paper/shopping bags. Here’s How We Can Reduce Garbage: •Use a reusable lunch bag or box, you won’t need to throw away a paper bag everyday! •When you make a purchase, don’t take a bag unless you absolutely need one. •Rent things you use infrequently instead of purchasing them. •Use cloth napkins instead of paper napkins. •Use a sponge or cloth instead of paper towels. •Look for items that use little or no packaging. •Use reusable plastic containers for food instead of plastic bags. •Use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable ones. •Read books, magazines, and newspapers at the library instead of purchasing them. •Use plates, cups, and utensils that can be washed instead of ones you throw away. •Purchase items like juice and detergent in concentrate when possible. •Avoid buying
