The green card is the license to live and work permanently in US

To be the permanent resident of the US there are certain rules to be followed. In fact the US immigration has been one of the main sources of the increase in population in US. Now to become a legitimate permanent resident of the United States the thing which is most essential is to have a identification card attesting to the permanent resident status of a person other than the natural citizen of the United states. This card is also informally known as the green card. This is the process of becoming a permanent resident of United States. This card provides the proof that the holder of this card is a legitimate permanent resident of the US and therefore it is essential to note that the Green Card holder must maintain permanent resident status and therefore it liable to be removed from the United States if certain conditions of this status are not met.

Unless an individual gets his or her green card a person with a Green card application can obtain mainly two important permits the employment authorization allowing the individual to take employment in United States on a temporary basis and the other one is the advanced parole which is a temporary travel document allowing the individual re-enter the United States. Both of these permits provide benefits which are independent of any existing status granted to the individual.

There are several means to attain a green card. In this the immigrant actually has to go though a three step process to get the permanent residency in the United States.

These steps include the Immigrant Petition which is the first step that approves the immigrant petition by a qualifying relative, employer, or in rare cases, such as with an investor visa, the applicant himself. In case of an infant or a child he or she must have the same parents as the applicant.

The second step for this purpose is the Immigrant Visa Availability. This is unless the applicant is an immediate relative, an immigrant visa number must be attained through the National Visa Center of the United States.

The next step is of Immigrant Visa Adjudication. If an immigrant visa number becomes available the applicant will have to apply either with USCIS to adjust their current status to permanent resident status or apply with DOS for an immigrant visa at the nearest US consulate before being allowed to come to the United States. This may include Adjustment of Status AOS or Consular Processing.

This is the process of obtaining a green card as a permanent resident of the United States. As stated earlier there are several means by which one may obtain a green card. This includes Green card marriage, relation based green card and also several other means. In fact the point is that the United States Government allows several means to become a Permanent resident, in other words to become a Green Card holder which allows the person to live and work permanently in the United States.
