This home was Inspired by the Eichler series of homes in California, the 468 House with floor-to-ceiling walls of glass, soaring vaulted ceilings, exposed wood beams and public spaces around a courtyard is a contemporary take on Mid-century Modernism. Built in 2006 by Dallas Architect Jonathan Delcambre and lauded by the US Green Building Council, the project used structurally insulated panels, passive solar design, low-E windows, a TPO membrane roof as well as other environmentally responsible building techniques. The architect, who has also designed larger and much more expensive homes in the Kessler Woods development kept the house in scale with the original homes in the neighborhood and chose classic modern materials such as 16 inch roman brick – similar to the style favored by Frank Llyod Wright combined with concrete flooring and other more contemporary features. Like most Mid-century Modern homes, 468 House has an open floor plan with the living room, dining room and kitchen sharing one space. Theses spaces are united by matching maple cabinetry in the kitchen with it’s large island, the media wall in the living room and the custom see-though fireplace that acts as an architectural screen giving definition to the spaces. The exposed beam ceilings soar up to 14′ with clerestory windows providing natural light and privacy.
