Green Button for Energy Saving

Ecobutton is an innovation presented by the British corporation Bright Ideas Global. It was released in 2008 and got a lot of awards from a number of ecological associations. The idea of this small device is quite simple. A green button is connected with the computer through the USB. When the user leaves the computer, he/she pushes this button, and the computer switches to the advanced Stand-by mode that saves much more than the normal Stand-by. In this regime the computer takes only 1.8 watt.

Energy Saving Revolution is Coming Soon

Jong Kyu Kim and E. Fred Schubert from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute suggested another innovation in the sphere of saving. They offer substituting all the incandescent and fluorescent lamps for the LED. The efficiency of an LED is higher than that of an incandescent or fluorescent lamp. It can become twice higher than the efficiency of neon tubes in the future. The total substitution of all lamps in the world by LEDs will decrease the electricity consumption to the 13-17 times lower rate. It will save almost 2 trillions of dollars and one milliard barrels of oil. It will also decrease the CO2 emission by 11 gigatones.

The Autonomous Airplane

Light cells are also likely to be used in many countries. They have proved their effectiveness and reliability. Zephyr is an unmanned airplane equipped by light batteries and accumulators. It was presented by QinetiQ Company in 2007 and made a number of flights since that time. In 2007 it was flying for 54 hours. In 2008 its flight lasted for 82 hours. During the latest flight, Zephyr stayed non-stop in the air for 14 days.
