The kitchen is one of busiest places in the house and as such it is one of the most energy hungry area too. We do our cooking and clothes washing from the kitchen not to mention the dish-washing and cleaning – all of which takes energy.

Cutting down on our energy consumption in the kitchen is one sure way of reducing our carbon footprint, turn our home into a more eco-friendly one and save on our energy bills.

Here are some ideas how you can cut down on energy and water use, as well as save some money and even time.

Cooking

There are many things we can do whilst cooking to save energy. A good way to start is to use less pots and pans. This not only means we’ll use less rings on the hob and save on gas and electric but also it will save on washing up. Vegetables can all be cooked together, its just a matter of timing and there are other ways of reducing energy too.

Gas energy savers allow you to get more heat from the gas stove for less use. These alloy discs heat up so you don’t have to turn the gas knob as high to get the same effect. Halogen ovens are another great way of cooking too. They heat up instantly saving yo from wasting all that energy waiting for the over to get hot. They also use dramatically less energy.

Washing

Perhaps one of the most power hungry appliances in the kitchen is the tumble dryer. By reverting to a washing line or a clothes airer you will save on a big chink of your electricity bill. By making sure you wash at a low temperature and ensure the washing machine is full before you turn it on – will also go a long way in helping.

An Eco Kettle will reduce electricity usage

Eco Kettles

For the household that has a kettle that gets a lot of use an eco kettle will save energy and money. Not as dramatic as perhaps other energy saving devices but the cumulative savings, especially if you drink as much tea as I do, is considerable
