Eric states talks about current flaws in city design and suggests alternatives for sustainable design. Eric feels that it is flawed for building professionals to build as quick as possible and maximize profits, and city blocks built for profit are no good if they are not filled with life and activity. He mentions how Americans moved into suburbs in an attempt to realize a unrealistic American dream; however, what it has turned into is a place where individuals are secluded and don’t communicate. In a more ideal city, there would be parks, cafes and other social gathering places; there is a lack of good design in a number of communities like suburbs. about the speaker: Eric Corey Freed is principal of Organic Architect and author of Green Building for Dummies.
