The 17th Street project is the first of the city’s “Pavement to Parks” program in which a small stretch of 17th Street in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood is transformed into a car-free pedestrian plaza. The trial closure will provide spaces for seating and informal public gatherings, and will improve pedestrian and bicycles safety around the area.
