I am 61 years old and have been commuting by bicycle now for 4.5 years. I have commuted 14000 miles. I would say I am experienced but not an expert. Everyday is differant. Every situation is unique. Desitions have to made in split seconds. I have found it very usefull to film my commute and review the situations to analize my desitions. I make lots of mistakes. Personally, I believe sharing the roadway with motor vehicles is dangerous. In my opinion the more information bicyclist share with each other the better off we will be. I am not a vehicular cyclist. I am a situational cyclist. I do what ever I believe is safest at the time. My desire is to have a stress free commute. If I believe I am safest on the sidewalk than I will ride on the sidewalk. My normal commute is 21 miles round trip. I ride 3 or 4 days a week. I average 11 mph. ( I am old and slow.)
