While many of us would like to help the environment, the current recession has scared many away from doing so. Many believe that “Going Green” is time consuming or just too costly and since many are tight for money they simply go on living their wasteful lives. What these people don’t know is that going green can be cheap, in some cases saves you money, and can even make you money. Going green does not mean going broke and is possible at every income level. When reducing, reusing, and recycling every little thing counts. Therefore, if it isn’t going to cost you anything, you can save money, and you could make money why isn’t everyone doing this you may ask. Well mostly because they don’t know what they can do. That is why I am here to help. The rest of this article will help you understand ways to go green with out spending any additional money, ways to go green while saving money, and ways to go green and make money. So lets GO GREEN!

There are numerous ways for anyone to go green without spending money.

Recycle, this is the easiest thing you can do. Almost all garbage companies provide you with a recycling container, so use it. You already buy the products in plastic, glass, aluminum, or paper so instead of throwing them away, recycle them. To make it even easier most companies do not require you to separate your plastic, glass, aluminum, and paper. Which means all you have to do is throw these things in the recycling bin rather than the trash bin.

Unplug all unused electronic appliances. Even when electronics are not on if they are plugged in, they are using electricity. Consider using a power strip you have around the house so you can turn off multiple electronics at once.

Now let’s go green and SAVE money

Never buy a roll of paper towels again. Invest in some kitchen towels or cloths. Spend the money you would have spent on paper towels and buy cloth towels. Cloth towels are washable so they can be used repeatedly. This will save so much paper and once you buy the cloths, you will only need to replace them every year, if that.

Start a garden. Growing you own food is great for the environment and great for your wallet. First, you will not be buying imported fruits and vegetables, which are costly to import in the first place. Therefore, you will be saving yourself and retailers money. Second, you will save on gas by not having to run out to the grocery store.

Cancel you newspaper subscription. In this digital age, why pay for the new when you can get it free on you computer. The same goes for magazines; everything is online now. So, save on subscription costs and save paper at the same time.

Carpool with friends. Whether you have to take the kids to school, go to work, or are going to the movies instead of taking separate cars, carpool. Additionally, run all errands back to back. Both will cut down on fuel emissions and save you money on gas.

Turn down you thermostat when you leave the house and at night. Also, put on a sweater before turning on the heat. This will save on you heating bill.

Finally, let’s go green and MAKE money

A great way to make money while going green is to recycle your old electronics like cell phones, digital cameras, and laptops. Organizations can go to a sight such as www.recycling4green.com/ and send them your old and used electronics and they will pay you for them depending on the quality. They have an entire price list with all different brands and model numbers showing you what you can get for your recyclables. Many additional websites offer these recycling options for individuals as well.

Sell used books. There are numerous buyback sights on the web that will buy used books from you. This is a great way to recycle paper. Additionally when you are looking to buy a book, buy used, it will save you money and save paper.

Have a yard sale. Instead of throwing away what you no longer want, remember the saying “one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.” This recycles and makes you money.

Finally, the website www.recyclebank.com/ will reward you for things you are already recycling. Just become a member and earn points for what you recycle. Then redeem your points for rewards like Acme, CVS Pharmacy, and Pet Co. gift cards.

So, now that you know how you can reduce, reuse and recycle while not spending, saving money and making money there is no excuse why you can’t Go Green today.
