THE BENEFICIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ALTERNATIVE TO SAND

FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESS-WATER FILTERS,

DURAFILTER CAN ASSIST IN ACHIEVING CARBON-REDUCTION TARGETS.

for more information see www.bio-chemical.co.uk

DURAFILTER is  wholly manufactured in the U.K. from crushed recycled glass, graded for specific use as a filtration-media in commercial and industrial process-water filters. It is non-toxic, non-harmful, totally safe for use and conforms to British Standard PAS102. For many years, quarried sand has been the principal media-product traditionally used for such filtration purposes. However, recent independent studies by leading experts, combined with practical trials, have clearly established that crushed recycled glass, properly processed and graded for the purpose, is a much more effective and more environmentally friendly alternative to sand.

Our DURAFILTER CRUSHED-GLASS material is cost-comparable to sand and therefore, whenever a routine media-change is planned, our pricing policy allows process-water filters to be converted from sand to crushed-glass usage at no extra cost to the operator. Unlike quarried sand, which is a finite resource, DURAFILTER media is manufactured from recycled glass stock and therefore addresses a wide range of current concerns about the need to conserve natural resources, reduce land fill, minimise carbon emissions and improve our environment.

A study by leading experts Aqua Enviro concluded that:

“In order to reprocess recycled glass to PAS 102 standard, approximately 73 kg CO2/tonne of media is produced compared to 2 kg CO2/tonne of silica sand. However, when the application benefit is taken into account, this work has shown that replacing sand with glass as a filtration media delivers savings which may equate to as much as 1,261 kg CO2/tonne/annum of media produced, resulting in a substantial net environmental benefit. These CO2 savings arise largely from the superior performance of glass and resultant reduced pump run times.”

In normal industrial/commercial applications, DURAFILTER recycled glass media can last for a minimum operational period of 10 years without need for interim replacement. DURAFILTER can improve filtration operating standards and can also yield operational cost savings through reduced water and power usage in backwashing procedures.

Our company has specialised in servicing and maintaining water-filtration plant nationwide for over ten years. The introduction of DURAFILTER glass-media to our range means that we can now undertake a media conversion from sand-usage to the more efficient and effective crushed-glass option, at a total cost no higher than would normally be charged for standard sand replacement.

Combined with our unique and proven technology for corrosion-treatment and corrosion-prevention on all steel vessels, plant and structures, our filter services can significantly improve filter-unit performance and yield annual operational cost savings.

Our sister company www.pool-maintenance.co.uk also supply swiiming pool grade Durafilter for use in all commercial and local authority pools

For anti corrosion services also see www.steelworkprotection.co.uk
