The government of Bolivia has increased fuel prices by more than seventy per cent. Evo Morales’ administration says the $380m state subsidy can no longer be afforded — especially as much of it ends up going to foreigners. The price rises have caused the country’s main transport union to call for an indefinite strike. Jonathan Josephs reports
